Arizona sunset

I started a blog called “McGoo’s Travel Log” on a prospecting site as a lark (I prospect for gold also) and some people actually liked it. It seems that the site may be discontinued, probably due to my posts. So I asked some of the bloggers if they would like to continue hearing from me and got a small response (I said some people, not a lot).

This is my first experience building a blog site, if it gets a little out of hand, just bear with me. In the mean time if you have any additions, suggestions, please leave a comment. If you don't leave a comment, how will I know you have been here?

Today we traveled to Quartzside AZ and my first impression is "what a zoo". The desert is a sea of RV's. We have joined up with a group of Tiffin Motor Home owners in the desert, and will be boon docking for the next three days. It consists of, visiting, eating, and drinking beer. My kind of people. The people responsible for the get together put out a nice array of snacks for cocktail hour. Later a large campfire was built and everyone got to know one another.

Well we are in downtown (Quartzsite) and settled in. I took a little walk across from the RV park (Holiday Palms) and checked out the vendors. I think they must have bought all the stuff that I cleaned out of my shop. I never saw such a collection of junk in my life. I didn't take my wife, she is pissed enough already thinking about spending two weeks here. There are no restraurants, Wallmart, Costco, movies, or most of all no DQ. Well the great thing about all this, it can't get any worse (unless I run out of Bud). Of course there are those of you that know I will have a little stash of Brandy hidden away (for my cholestrol).

Did some more perusing, didn't get any better. Never was one to go to flea markets or garage sales. I always had enough junk of my own. Looks like it may turn out to be a long two weeks.

Well my wife finally had it with Quart-size and we left a week early and headed back to Phoenix. Weather is much better here (no wind, and warmer), It is kinda nice to have a grocery store since motorhomes usually don't have a very large fridge. Guess I'm getting spoiled also. Well now I can get my stuff together and start planning my next journey up the hill and do a little prospecting. More later....

2/10/09
Well I just spent 5 days up the hill. You can check it out by looking at the Bradshaw Mts.

3/10/09                                                                                                                                      I spent most of last week in the Bradshaw’s but not much time prospecting. Wind came up and it got a little cold in the water. To many of my joints dislike cold. Did get some color. Spent some time cleaning up the camp and took a hike looking for an old Indian battle ground. Did a little exploring on the Rino and nugget shooting but not many nuggets in the area. Another prospector came up with a neat new dry washer and was getting color. When the weather warms a little I’ll go back.

I will soon have my Skype setup and anyone wanting my info can email me. Also if you want to know more about Skype, let me know. You can call anyone in the world free and if you have a webcam, you can do a face to face or conference call. Just tried it with a friend in Canada and it was great.

4/24/09
Have been using Skype to call my grandson in Sicily (he is a Seabee) and it works pretty good. Can't complain, it's free. Have been packing the RV for our trip north. Will be leaving in a couple of weeks for Island Park ID. Looking forward to some good fishing. Went to Cabela's and bought a pair of waders, now I can get a little closer to the fish!
Going to Cleator AZ. tomorrow for a couple of days to store my Rino and gold dredging equipment. Will be back late next fall to continue prospecting.

Well we left Phoenix and about 150 miles out we blew a tire on our tow dolly and ruined the fender. Had to send my wife back to Phoenix for another fender and I continued on to Kingman AZ and waited for her return. Was a very bad day. Temp. was about 100 and thanks to the help of  AZ Highway partolman the tire change went fairly smooth. The following day we decided to try going to 395 out of Barstow and cross winds were about 50 mph. Driving a motorhome in those conditions can really wear on you. An older Winnie was ahead of us when the wind caught the top of his RV, peeled the roof back and slats peeled off like a deck of cards. Was a very bad day for him. Stopped off in Minden NV to check on our hse. that is forsale. We will soon be heading for Island Park ID for several months of watching the animals in Yellow Stone Park and fishing. Will keep you posted on the fishing when I get there.
5/30/09
We are finally on the move and will be in Winnimucca NV for a couple of days. Dinner at one of our favorite spots and than make a stop Monday to service MH and than on to Jackpot NV for a few days. Nice thunderstom and rain going on now here in Winnemucca. Great to be on our way. Really hate making the fish wait!
6/2/09
Winnemucca proved succesful for my wife, she made $140 at the casino. We will see how she does at Cactus Pete's in Jackpot. No holdem game so I didn't lose anything. Lots of rain last nite.
6/6/09
Arrived Island  Park on the 4th and went into the park yesterday. Rain forcast today and possible snow tomorrow. Saw lots of bison and a couple of elk. Didn't get to go the route we wanted. There was a wreck on the road and delays from 1 to 2 hrs. Going to W. Yellowstone today to shop for trout flies.
6/7/09
Slept a little cold last night and there was about two inches of snow on the ground this morning and still snowing.
7/14/09
I haven't had anything to report, still at Island Park ID. and rain almost everyday. To much wind to fish and to many dingbats to go into the park. Supposed to clear starting tomorrow. Looking forward to better weather.

Been a while since my last post, but after leaving ID, we went to Dillon MT and explored a great gost town. Some great rivers for fishing, may come back next year. Than on to Glacier Park for a week.  A week in Missoula MT. Stayed a couple of weeks at Richland WA. Than onto Boardman Ore. for a couple of more weeks. One of the best RV parks we have ever stayed, right on the Columbia River.  Next traveling to the OR coast and great fish dinners along the way. Now we are settled in at our winter stay in Phoenix.
